connected to the system using a parallel port. The
remaining DeskJet printers can be connected via a
parallel port or an HP JetDirect network adaptor.
+o Hewlett-Packard DesignJet 650C and 750C plotters.
The DesignJet 650C and 750C can be connected via a
parallel port or an HP JetDirect network adaptor. A
755C can also be driven with the 750C driver.
+o Hewlett-Packard LaserJet IIP, IIP+, III, IIIP, 4, 4P,
4L, 4V, 4Plus, 4Si, 5L, 5P, 5Si.
The HP LaserJet IIP, IIP+, III, IIIP, 4, 4L and 5L
must be connected to the system using a parallel port.
The remaining LaserJet printers can be connected via a
parallel port or an HP JetDirect network adaptor.
+o Epson Color Stylus, Color Stylus Pro and Color Stylus
Pro XL.
All Epson Stylus printers must be connected to the
system using a parallel port.
- 10 -
+o Lexmark Optra R, Rx, L, Lx and Lxi.
All supported Lexmark printers can be connected via a
parallel port or via the printers' network adaptor (the
network adaptor is optional on some Lexmark printers).
+o Genicom 7910, 7912 and 7916.
All supported Genicom printers can be connected via a
parallel port or via the printers' network adaptor.
(the network adaptor is optional on some Genicom
printers). Note that these printers are OEM'ed from
Lexmark and use the Lexmark drivers.
+o Impressario 2.0 includes a Generic Color PostScript
printer driver that converts files to Color PostScript
and sends the PostScript file to the printer.
The Generic Color PostScript driver supports the
parallel port and HP JetDirect network adaptors. Other
network adaptors can be used as long as they use TCP
port 9100 as their data port (HP JetDirect network
adaptors use TCP port 9100 and most newer printers will
also use the same port number).
Note that all existing printers, including networked
printers, must be deleted and reinstalled using the Printer
Manager after you install Impressario 2.0. Remote printers
can be reinstalled automatically with the rrrreeeeiiiinnnnssssttttaaaallllllllpppprrrr((((1111MMMM))))
shell script. An exception are systems running IRIX 4.*.
IRIX 4.* users should not delete and reinstall existing
printers.
Impressario includes support for the following scanners:
+o Hewlett-Packard ScanJet IIc, IIcx, 3C, 4C
+o Ricoh FS1 and FS2
+o Sharp JX320, JX325, JX330, JX600, JX610
The MicroTek ScanMaker 600 ZS driver is no longer
available.
The Epson GT-6000 driver is no longer available.

Your workstation must be running at least IRIX release 6.2
in order to use Release 2.0 of Impressario. To determine the
IRIX system release, use the command:
uuuunnnnaaaammmmeeee ----aaaa
The Impressario Adobe PostScript interpreter uses a FLEXlm
node locked license. All HP and Epson printer drivers
require the PostScript interpreter. gscan, vstiff,
Impressario filters, the developers kit and all printer
drivers that use a printer's built-in PostScript interpreter
do not require the FLEXlm node locked license to work.
Impressario 2.0 may be distributed with some new hardware
bundles, software bundles and to 6.2 users with a support
contract WITHOUT the FLEXlm node locked license. A license
must be purchased to use the Adobe PostScript interpreter
for these cases. Note that these bundles do not have the
impr_rip and impr_rip_printers subsystems installed
(impr_rip contains the PostScript interpreter and
impr_rip_printers contains the HP and Epson drivers that use
the PostScript interpreter). You may wish to install the
impr_rip and impr_rip_printers subsystems when you acquire
the FLEXlm node locked license.
If a system configured as a print server (using Impressario
1.2) is upgraded to IRIX 6.2 the upgrade process will
indicate conflicts requiring the Impressario 1.2 images to
be removed before IRIX 6.2 will install (Impressario 1.2 is
not supported under IRIX 6.2 and is removed as part of the
IRIX 6.2 upgrade process). When the Impressario 1.2 images
are removed the installation history is "reset" and when you
install Impressario 2.0 only the Impressario 2.0 default
images will be installed. If the print server was running
Impressario 1.2 chances are it was using the Impressario
Adobe PostScript interpreter and you will need to also
install impr_rip and impr_rip_printers subsystems on the
updated print server (impr_rip and impr_rip_printers do NOT
install by default in Impressario 2.0 because they require
the FLEXlm node locked license to work). Registered
Impressario 1.2 users with a valid support contract will
receive the Impressario 2.0 FLEXlm node locked license as
part of their IRIX 6.2 upgrade.
You can use the License Manager to enter the Impressario
license. Type the command ////uuuussssrrrr////eeeettttcccc////LLLLiiiicccceeeennnnsssseeeeMMMMaaaannnnaaaaggggeeeerrrr to start
the license manager (or start the License Manager using the
- 12 -
Toolchest System pull-down menu). Temporary licenses are
available from the SGI web server at
http://www.sgi.com/Products/license.html or send a blank
email message to: license@sgi.com. In North America,
Silicon Graphics' customers may request Permanent licenses
by sending a facsimile (FAX) to: (415) 390-0537 or by
calling our technical support hotline 1-800-800-4SGI. If
you are Outside of North America or you are not a Silicon
Graphics support customer then contact your local support
provider.
If the license has expired a message is printed on the
printer when you try to print. This message is in the file
////uuuussssrrrr////lllliiiibbbb////pppprrrriiiinnnntttt////ddddaaaattttaaaa////ppppssssrrrriiiipppp____eeeexxxxppppiiiirrrreeeedddd____mmmmssssgggg. If the license will
expire any time in the next 90 days a warning message is
printed on the banner page.
The minimum recommended system for use with Impressario 2.0
is an R4K Indigo with 32 MBytes of memory. However, a faster
system and additional memory are highly recommended for
printer servers. Consider adding an additional 4 MBytes of
memory and 5 MBytes of disk space for each additional
printer that will be controlled by the print server (this
applies if you will be running multiple printers at the same
time from the same print server).
A number of Impressario subsystems require that other
software subsystems be installed on the system. The
following table lists the prerequisite subsystems for each
Impressario subsystem. Note that the prerequisite subsystems
may be other Impressario subsystems or subsystems in the
base IRIX release. To use this table effectively, select the
Impressario subsystems you wish to install and read the
prerequisite subsystems. Use the _v_e_r_s_i_o_n_s(_1_M) command to
determine whether the prerequisite subsystems are installed
and use the Software Manager to install any missing
subsystems. Impressario subsystems not listed in the table
